Create a family with IVF/ICSI treatment
If you or your partner are facing male fertility issues, then ICSI fertility treatment may be best for you.
What is IVF?
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a medical procedure where eggs and sperm are combined in a lab dish. It is a fertility treatment for those who are having trouble conceiving due to issues such as poor sperm quality, endometriosis or low ovarian reserve, or for couples and single women.
Successfully fertilised embryos are transferred back into the woman's uterus to grow in the womb, usually one at a time. They can also be frozen for future cycles in addition to any surplus embryos. This allows for frozen embryo transfer, a procedure whereby frozen embryos are thawed before being inserted into the uterus.
IVF treatment can use the patients’ own eggs and sperm, or can be carried out with donor eggs or donor sperm. Combining IVF with donor eggs can sometimes be more successful, particularly for those over 40 or who have previously been through multiple IVF cycles.
What is ICSI?
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a powerful fertility treatment where sperm is injected directly into the egg, offering hope for couples facing male infertility.
What is the difference between IVF & ICSI?
Both IVF and ICSI are a type of artificial insemination that fertilise collected eggs with sperm to create an embryo that’s later transferred into the womb. The difference lies in how this happens. Sperm and eggs are left to naturally fertilise during IVF, whereas ICSI individually injects single sperm into each egg to aid the process.
Process of IVF/ICSI
IVF/ICSI fertility treatment starts with a virtual doctor consultation where you and your partner can share your medical history and treatment preferences. Following the results of your fertility tests, you will decide what is the most appropriate treatment for you.
Ovaries are stimulated
A course of fertility medication in order to produce multiple eggs and mature them ready for collection
Egg and sperm collection
Eggs are fertilised
The sperm and eggs are fertilised in the lab
Embryos are cultured
Embryos are grown in the lab or 5-6 days or frozen for FET
A sperm sample is collected (or donor sperm is thawed) and a procedure takes place under sedation to collect the eggs from the ovaries
Process involves several steps, including:
Embryo transfer
The embryos are transferred into the uterus
You take a pregnancy test
Following two weeks after the embryo transfer event
